Not the First Time
It’s not easy,
When someone you love
Doesn’t need you anymore.
After all the times
You tried so hard
To help them
Find their smile again,
They just suddenly find better.
And where are you?
Left alone,
Forgotten.
Watching
As they continue with their life,
Completely unaware
You’re dying inside.
Don’t dare say a word to them.
They can’t know.
You need to appear strong.
Yes, you’re completely fine.
The memories of something
Once so beautiful,
Fading to stark blackness.
All you feel:
This cold sense of wanting something,
You’re so desperately missing out.
All you can tell yourself now is that one day,
One random day,
Whether it be soon,
Maybe ten years,
You’ll find the reason to smile again,
That sweet day
When you forget the person’s name
Who caused you so much pain.
By now, you’ve found out
The best things in life
Come with a price.
So make sure it’s worth paying.
Because you matter, too.
They’re just a little bump in the road of life.
Smile, sunshine.
Find ways to stitch that broken heart up again,
Because no one who makes you feel this horrible
Is worth your time
Or your tears.
