The extraordinary Hilton Head
Waves crash on the innocent shore
Fish soaring out of the water into the crisp ocean breeze
The giant oaks create a canopy over me
As I ride down the newly paved sidewalk
The bright sun shines its rays on the salty water
The light blue sky on display for all to see
The bold red bikes blow past us
As the shiny, white yachts float around in the sea
In the harbor, the children’s laughter fills the air
But the splashing of birds in the water searching for their lunch is much louder
And the clanging of bicycle chains is softer as they pedal farther and farther away
As the ice cream lovers gasp as their taste buds explode with excitement from the wondrous flavors
On the beach, I shiver at the feeling of the cold water washing up against me
I marvel at the course feel of the purple starfish in my hand
And the sensation of chocolate ice cream hitting my taste buds
As I flinch at the splinters stinging from when they found their way into my feet from the harbor deck
As I lay on the beach, I think to myself this is the life
Believing this is the safest place on earth
Extraordinary
