Lullaby
Lying by the fire,
the warmth
lets me know everything will be okay.
“Rumble, crackle!”
The sky startles me.
Clutching on to my steamy hot chocolate,
the sweet smell calms me down.
Sipping the creamy chocolate milk,
as the sky turns from light to darkness,
from gray to black.
The soft rain fell hard
to the muddy, wet ground.
It sounded like rocks
drumming at my window.
The rain was like a lullaby.
The same rhythmic tone
fell from the sky.
My body was at ease.
The storm started to finally settle down.
My tiny eye lids grew big.
Heavy,
heavier
they had become.
As they close
and seal shut.
