I write to understand as much as to be understood - Elie Wiesel

Snakeskin
on top of wild hibiscus flowers
rotting in the sun.
Blood on a cactus needle – poppy-red and sticky
A shriek in the cold night,
the howl of a young and lonesome wolf.
We walked.
A waiting oasis, wet already with our
grateful tears.
Our hands melted into our bodies
and grabbed at our innards, but still
We walked.
The spotlight of the moon,
the song of coiled rattles
the never-ending
sweltering
promising
lull.

On we went into the burning embers
of the night sky
step by step
A melodious walk.
