Pill Pet
I am guinea pig
A small, obscure rodent in a big world
Nothing but data to the scientist
Who daily feed me, not love, but pellets
One for the past
And another for the future
I am guinea pig
Placing my hopes and prayers into these little, pink pellets
Wising they would just instead take my eyes
Give me those that are new
Will the pellets erase all I have seen?
Will they dissolve and soak my brain in sugar water?
Crack the shell formed around my heart?
Will they change how I see myself?
Will they make me stop hating my body?
Allow me to stop running the wheel?
Will they dissolve the iron bars of this cage
Will they take the ache from my teeth
From gnawing at them to no avail
Will they really make my life better?
Or will they just make me believe that it is?
I eat the pellets because I am told to
Choke them down with water from the tap
I am guinea pig
And so I hop back on my wheel and run
