"And not a day goes by where my heart doesn't find them." -Susanna Kaysen

We all grew up with bible verses on our walls and with hymns as lullabies. We believed that we had angels on one shoulder and demons on the other. That, if we followed the brightest star, we could see where Jesus was born. That, when we had done something wrong, we had to ask for forgiveness from some "man upstairs" or something. That, we had to thank the guy we've never met every time we find a treasure. That we had to sing to him every Sunday morning and eat bread to be his body and drink wine to be his blood. And that, if we love him enough, we will be rewarded after we die. Because a different man died on a cross so that we could all love. But, had he not died, life would have been yet sustained. That would have meant, though, that we, as humans, have to pay for our own "sins." If exclusion from heaven is not enough of a punishment, I do not know what is. Yes, it is said that these sins can be forgiven, but how does the death if one man trigger a new system? One man loses his life in order for it to be forgiven when another man kills ten children. Scriptures don't match, they're just tangled together, each a different ribbon, weaved and knotted and twisted throughout one another with no final answer.
