I tap my fingers
And match the rhythm of my heart.
Tap, tap, tap.
It’s so fast;
I make mistakes as I try to keep up.
Taptaptap.
I wonder why my heart
Is pounding so rapidly around you.
Tatatatap
My fingers continue to strike the desk.
It vaguely sounds like a beat I’ve heard before.
Tatatatata.
My fingers begin to hurt;
I’m beating them on the desk so hard now.
TATATATA
Everyone in the class can hear it—
It’s too loud not to be heard.
