Tonight
She dances like a lamb
With a trembling step and an awkward smile
She doesn’t move too far or too fast.
She’s not like the other girls
With their practiced movements and their made up faces
Yet she
She is the belle of the ball.
Her eyes are like the night sky
Shining ever so brightly
The color of an ending day
Shining like a thousand small stars,
Luminous enough to entice you if you saw them
But sadly fall upon blind eyes of
The city people who aren’t used to seeing
The true beauty.
She holds me like child
Soft , comforting, protective
With both hands on my hips
Pulling our bodies closer
As we sway in the fantasy of
Tonight.
