Running across a broken bridge
Above a pit of flames
Your fire-breathing dragon
Chasing us, not far behind.
You lay back in your lair
The ice heavy in your soul.
I've said goodbye before
The difference? This time I mean it.

Told myself that I'd be strong
Living life as your slave, for so long
Finally, this queen has been overthrown.
Confused, I'm left to wonder one thing,
What pleasure do you get out of this?
Torture, abandon, hatred
Locked up in your dungeons
This is the end. Goodbye, goodbye.

I am not the ghost you are to me
Never was, never will be
Your hallowed out heart is still
Heavy in your chest impossible to defeat
This ain't a fairytale
No happy ending, instead turning to stone
You've won, this is my last goodbye

The author's comments:
"The Last Goodbye," was originally written when I got into a fight with my mother. I wrote a poem about her, using metaphors that compared our dynamics so dysfunctional, as if I were her slave, and she was the queen. Of course, we got over that, and I realized that what I wrote was cruel and unfair. At the time I wrote "The Last Goodbye," I was going through a tough time getting over my crush. He had a girlfriend, and I really liked him. I would do anything for him, but he didn't seem to notice. So, I kept being his "sister," and he never noticed. So, I called our friendship off, this time, being the final goodbye.
