Lifting the Fog
Poetry, like a foggy mirror,
Conceals the observant
From what they want to see,
What they cannot see.
Clawing away at it
Only distorts the image,
Further disconnects sight
From understanding.
Time brings clarity,
As little by little
The mind becomes cognizant
Of what lies beneath
Itself, themselves,
Regardless of acceptance,
Of aesthetic displeasure,
Confusion in abundance.
Even with sharpness,
Care must be taken,
For what the eye will harness,
The mind cannot have shaken.
