Fill the Empty Barrel
Why does today always reek of yesterday?
Why does happiness seem so questionable and temporary?
Much like emptiness - all too familiar
After so long of trying to convince myself I'm okay
Why do I doubt that I belong?
Like the empty barrel stuck
My words are bouncing off the walls
But then again I realize
I have yet to let them out
Why is it so hard to say that today is a new day?
Why do the problems of yesterday scream louder than the chances of today?
Why can't my mind welcome new ideas
Or my heart new challenges?
Since when have such thoughts seep through my mind?
In the deception of eloquence,
Why have I only seen art?
Why do I delight in documentations of suffering for all the wrong things
Even when I know it's something more serious
Somewhere along the way
I forgot that He was knocking
Waiting at the door of my heart
My Father, My Saviour
In Him I'd find genuine consolation
Not that phony of strangers
That only lead to bitterness and ignorance
And show me beauty that bears no consequence to find pleasure upon
And fill this empty barrel in my heart to quiet my soul before Him
