Nightmare Come True

Hiding
Running
I’m always hiding and running.
Hiding from the man
I once called daddy.
Running from the man
I once called my hero.
Fifteen years after birth
And the truth comes out
Fifty women
Raped and brutally murdered.
Mommy was always crying.
Daddy was always gone.
Is my hero a bad man?
Rainy
Gloomy day
The truth came out.
Daddy killed mommy.
He wanted me next.
But I got away.
Here I am now
Nineteen years old
And hidden away
In the rainforest
Four years of peacefulness,
Loneliness,
And uncertainty.
They’ve protected me for so long
But four years later
And he’s found me
“Americus”
His voice said creepily,
Haunting.
Immovable from fear
Stuck here standing,
Staring at the man I’ve always feared
“well aren’t you going to give your daddy a hug?”
Then they came,
My words,
Like word vomit;
“You’re not my father!”
I could see the rage forming in his eyes
These words triggered it.
His murderous side took over
And threw me down to the ground,
Making the ground rumble
As though there was an earthquake
No, I won’t let him hurt me anymore!
Finally I got the courage
The strength
And put him in his place
One for every woman he’s ever killed
One for every lie he’s ever told me
And one especially for her,
My guardian angel,
My mom.
Realizing what I’ve just done,
Realizing that I,
The daughter of a serial killer,
Just let this fatal disease take over my body,
I collapse to the water grass below me.
I’m ashamed
Distraught.
I just killed a man.
Then, WHAM!
The door slams open.
And I awake from my terrible nightmare.
My body was filled with relief,
Until I realized what I dreamed
Was now coming to life.
“Americus.”

The author's comments:
This is a poem I wrote about, and kind of in the perspective of a character I created for my creative writing class. Her name, obviously, is Americus and her father is a serial killer. She is in hiding in the raiforests of Australia. So in this poem, her father finds her, basically. She can also see the future.
