Brother in the night
Searches for his own.
Under Diana's Light,
His soul is not alone.
In company they tell
their stories to the wind.
The yip, the howl, the cry
illuminate the dark.
The sharp tone etches its mark
upon the wind
for travelers to find.
Pen on a page, my story lies,
upon no skies.
The bards clothed in fur and fangs
sing their songs in natural tongues;
heads cocked in reverence
project their souls to come
crashing down in hail,
to leave its mark
on mine.

This is my experience hearing a coyote on a camping trip. I write it because nature is often a poet's muse, and everyone has a story to tell.
