Fade Too Late

Do you still know the answer
to that simple question?
Etched in my memory.
Might it fade over time?
The world has evolved so fast.
Might I not keep up with it?
To ensure it will not be forgotten,
I work hard enough to preserve as much as possible.
But how do you preserve our history?
On something other than paper?
Something durable, a sound recording
with echoes of our speech.
I need to save our history.
Fairly recently, I suspect the recording
may soon become unplayable,
and forgotten among countless other things.
