My Little Secret
I see you everyday and
everyday I try to throw
away all these memories
of you.
We were inseparable--
you and I
complete opposites
yet so close
like magnets
opposites attract.
The jokes that
no one but us understood
still get a chuckle from me
from time to time
but then I remember--
and stop.
The noises, the yelling
We were practically drowning
in anger and hatred
Phone calls were
absolute s***
silence for an hour
until someone finally
just hangs up
The end was
inevitable
held my hand out
one last time
and that's how
it stayed.
I found our old pictures from
back when physical photos
were a common thing
our smiles toothy and full of youth
I tried finding the courage
to rip those smiles apart
instead I
put the picture in my pocket
my little secret
