I used to think
The goldfish in my pond
Were blindingly beyond
The ugly little caterpillars
Washed up on my yard

But when the baby
Caterpillar showed its fuzzy skin
Its squawky purple stripes
I changed my mind and thought
The caterpillar was my type

Until I grabbed it
And the stinging poison filled my hand
So swollen I could not fit on
My golden marriage band

So firmly I
Abandoned it, went back to my goldfish
And dunked my hand inside the pool
To cool my swollen fist

Then the goldfish
Suddenly came up to the surface,
Bellies white and beautiful
Like light from a furnace.
