Hurdles

You get to your marks and set
Before you know it’s time to go.

Pow!
The gun is fired
And everybody who used to be your friend
Becomes your worst enemy.

The crowd is cheering
But who for?
The guy on your heals?
Or you?

You continue to run
As the next hurdle comes closer.
Are you going to make it?

What happens if you don’t?
Do you quite or keep going?

You’re over it!
But here comes the final hurdle.
Your legs are getting weak
But you have to push through the pain.

You’re over it!
Now comes the final sprint
To the finish line.

He is catching up
But you cross the finish line
Just a split second before he does.

You start to slow down,
But not too fast.
Congratulations you hear
As you walk back to the starting line.

You get your time recorded
And go sit down for
Once again another break
Before your next race.

We were told to create something that reflects our personality. I choose to create a poem/masterpiece about hurdles. I have done them for four years and have always loved doing them so why not?

You don't see a lot of sports poems on here so this was a nice change! I love how you walked the reader through the mentality of what's goes through your head during the race:) great poem!
