It’s that time of year again, only this year it’s different, rather then trying to remember last years math were now excited for life’s new path

Looking back to freshman year, we were fearful of the upperclassman’s wrath

But thinking back then everything seemed so cool, finally walking into school with all the older kids, going football games and finally being able to stand on the bleachers

The only downfall was that this year seemed serious and you had to enter with your head on straight and your homework done to impress your teachers

Leaving for school hearing your mother say, “Walk away with some knowledge today”

Having to take your first real dose of exams and knowing you’re actually going to use that “knowledge” you’ve locked away.

Homecoming passes, and along come new classes

The thrill of sophomore year rapidly approaches as freshman year passes

Seemingly sophomore year speedily appears now we are mixed in with a new set of peers

New classmates, freshman to laugh at and think “Man, ill be a freshman again in a couple of years”

Thoughts of college suddenly trickle into the minds of newly licensed teens

Getting that plastic card symbolizes a step toward adulthood but your not there by any means

Because your just a sophomore, but looking back who could ask for more?

No college applications to be filled out, no worries of making final decisions where to attend school, all the steps toward success that you couldn’t ignore

But blast, sophomore year was now a moment of the past, its junior year now and it just got real

Maturing faster than ever before but your just not sure how to feel

This was the crucial year of high school your grades had to be perfect

If you wanted your Alma mator to think you were worth it

College essay practices, and ACT prep classes, ah the things we will never miss

Your third year into high school anxiously awaiting for that bell to dismiss

Through all the drama of being an underclassman this was the moment consisting of two words; circle tables

The zone that anyone under 11th grade was forbid to sit, but that’s what being a junior enables

The year gradually moved by, as our mothers and fathers wanted to cry

Knowing this could be one of the last years before their kids waved goodbye

AT LAST, senior year approaches and we are filled with relief

In enthusiastic excitement we knew this year would be brief

Whether it was standing front row at football games

Or chanting at the freshman at pep-rally’s and calling them names

Only 10 short months and we’ll all be heading off to different places

Whether it’s working a summer job, or going to college and meeting brand new faces

We all will change, but we will not forget those best friends that we found

And we won’t forget to come back to our old stomping ground

In a few months we will throw up our hats and shout hooray

But we will never forget how we felt on that very first day

We will look to the future

And praise the past

As we realize the bonds of friendship, and these memorable moments will certainly not be our last
