Dreaming
Eyelids drooping, I fight the sleep.
While my body longs to escape
into the haven of sugar plum fairies,
I struggle to remain conscious.
In the land of jumping sheep,
I am yet again a child.
Where I am free only in spirit.
A life of obedience to my mother,
ignorantly subjected to compliancy.
Awake, age gives me wisdom.
Stressful days and worrisome nights,
a fair trade for solitude.
Yet the brief moments when my
resolute gives out.
I escape back to the world
in which I am truly free.
