Strife in Life
To dare to dream
Is to dare to fly
imagine riding on the sky
soaring so high
floating above the rust
on a speck of crust
held back by dust
into the world you were thrust
with no directions or map
caught in a mousetrap
completing your hundredth lap
without a gap
pushing past the pain
even in the rain
down the beaten lane
straining like a crane
finding your nest
to take a rest
the sun rising in the west
over the mountain crest
fighting back the tears
over the years
looking in a hundred mirrors
at the clogged gears
of the patchwork machine
that needs to be cleaned
where the government is queen
it makes you green
to see the country fall
and backed up against the wall
while we float on a grass ball
down the galaxy hall
where money comes first
and we do the worst
and we thirst
to be nursed
and greed is the king
and lust is his left wing
we will not bring
not even a thing
with us past death
after our final breath
