The Dove
She rides her horse to and fro,
she looks for her husband who she lost below.
It's a dreadful night,
and she is full of spite.
As she wanders through the hallowed halls,
she listens for his helpless calls.
But with no soldier's heart beating,
she fears her husband must be bleeding.
With melancholy everywhere,
she feels his spirit in the air.
Though she feels in her heart it can't be true,
her husband's life is over and through.
She finds a glass shard,
places it over her heart.
With final words she cries out,
"I need to scream,
I need to shout.
They took my love,
so for now I must be,
but the soul of a dove."
And with that one final stab,
she gracefully falls against the granite slab.
No one to catch her, or to the stop pierce,
only the one lonely dove, perched very near.
