Whenever we drive around that corner
I see the big sign, House of Flavors,
And the humungous ice cream cone decoration,
I know I’m about to be a very ecstatic girl.

As soon as the door is opened the smell wafts towards me.
Sweet and syrupy, making my nose twinge with excitement,
The scent of ice cream was almost overwhelming,
I become one of the little children so eager.

My cousins were buzzing in my ear,
Eagerly awaiting their own moment to get ice cream,
What kind should I get?, everyone was asking each other,
Making sure they didn’t miss out on the best flavor.

Families, like my own, packed the store,
Everyone loves ice cream.
Young children’s faces were coated in the sweet, sticky ice cream,
While they delightfully licked their cones.

Fifty flavors, at least, all awaiting my choice.
Blue Moon, Mackinac Island Fudge, Ultimate peanut Butter Cup, or Superman.
Which flavor should I get today?
The line of tins full of bright ice cream sat in front of me.

All year long, this sole summer day is something I look forward to,
Knowing this summer I’d be able to go to House of Flavors,
I was about to burst from anticipation,
This moment was exhilarating.

Finally, I stepped up to the counter,
Quite certain of my choice, I definitively said, Blue Moon!
The turquoise blue ice cream was my favorite,
The flavor forever a mystery.

I watched in amazement as they stacked my cone with two scoops,
Looking forward to the moment I’d get to lick it.
This was the best part of summer,
This moment right here.
