The Fury of the Bomb
The City is a place of lights
But a brighter one just split the night
It hits the ground, then rises up
So many things it interrupts

Then there’s the resounding boom
And there it is, the worst of doom
The mighty skyscrapers hit the ground
As the earth begins to jolt and pound

And rising above the flattened skyline
Is a putrid, deadly, warning sign
It spreads and grows and blocks the sun
So many souls, are overcome

A dry mouth’s drink will kill at swallow
And afterwards the city’s hollow
The wind is hot, the sky is dark
and dust fills up the sunken ark

Then slowly all the rest are gone
The fire labyrinth blocks the dawn
The inferno dies, but death is felt
And Earth is surrounded by a blackened belt

Earlier this year, our entire grade took a school trip to New York City. During this trip, we passed 270, Broadway. Although this meant absolutely nothing to a good portion of my classmates, I did know what this building used to be. It was the headquarters of the Manhattan Project, the first successful initiative to make an atomic bomb.

Seeing this building, I thought, "Wow, there are so may countries in the world right now who really do not like the U.S., what if one of them dropped an atomic bomb on us, right now?"

Of course, I know that this is highly unlikely, but at the same time, I couldn't help but think that I was in the largest city the U.S., and it would be a prime destination for an attack. It probably didn't help that the day before, we had visited the 9/11 memorial, but I can't help what I think about.
