Lullaby for the Lonely Children
Mommy yells those angry glass shards
into the telephone,
and little girl cries, because she knows
tonight they’ll be alone.
Because daddy ran outside
and then he slammed the door
and then he yelled back into the house
that he cannot forgive no more.
So hush little girl, don’t cry,
I promise it’ll be alright.
I know that in the morning
they will forget this fight.
But angry words shouted
into the night air
can be forgiven, but
you’ll always know they’re there.
Cause words leave scars
and broken hearts;
as soon as the fight ends
another one starts.
But please little girl
don’t cry yourself to sleep tonight,
because you know this’ll end one day
And we will be alright.
