Anguish
Death, in a family of six
has a powerful effect—unimaginable but real.
A year of the unexpected. A father took his final breath
at the first snowfall.
His body stiff and cold as ice,
surrounded by warm blankets and warm faces.
The wrinkles by his checks no longer lifted into a smile,
yet a look of sadness.
Prior, anguish was unknown to them.
The family unearths their dusty, sleeping
colored pencils. As each stroke hits the canvas,
their pain eases.
The daughter silently illustrates lines in
The moonlight and lets each stroke bring her back into a memory.
