Beneath the Palms
EW! Why so rough? Is it contagious? What happened?
As a girl, hardly a day passed by without a comment
On the cracked channels coursing through my palms and digits
Like a road map etched amidst raw and red mountains of flesh.
I simply responded with a shrug while gazing downward at my feet: another area of affliction.
As a young lady, I realize that everything happens for a reason;
I accept that I am different and embrace my extraordinary self.
This condition has forced me to face other challenges in life.
Today, I have triumphed over this irritation.
For in the end I am untraceable: I have no fingerprints. Ha!
