Nightmares
It's the nightmares that keep me awake.
Through the hours and the minutes and the seconds.
It's the dreams that keep my sanity at stake.
The ones that make death start to beckon.
Each face distorted into the truth they won't reveal.
Each touch that racks my body and kills me slowly.
But when I wake in the morning my lips are sealed.
Afraid that with truth revealed, action will follow closely.
It's the nightmares that make me want to scream
And my mouth bleeds from the lack thereof.
The bottle to bring infinite silence the first thing I reach for.
But I falter and stop and fall short of
The one thing that could stop the pain forever more.
It's the nightmares that keep me awake.
Through the hours and the minutes and the seconds.
And I wait for the day that holds peaceful sleep.
