She writes letters then burns them
I guess that’s how she keeps her secrets safe
I enjoy playing with fire
Darling, you mustn’t do that
She whispers into my ear
No. what I must not do is send letters
To preying eyes that do not deserve to feast on my words
But listening to her, I did not burn this letter
With its spelling errors and punctuation mistakes
It made its way into a white envelope
Sealed with two swipes of my finger
I had done it
One may find this a success
Telling someone how you feel
But I should have burned that letter
Buried its ashes deep inside my heart
I handed it over to a traitor
Failing to burn this letter was a success to burning myself
Singed forearms reach out for the same feeling in return
To be loved so deeply, its finger tips no longer have to pick up the lighter
That’s what I craved but I always seemed to be hungry
