"But I like the inconveniences."
"We don't," said the Controller. "We prefer to do things comfortably."
"But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin."

"And I'm dying, I'm dying, I'm dying"
Said the child
She lies down on her bed of feathers
And the angels take their wings from the mattress
And God lifts her head onto her pillow
And her mother sits stonily in the other room.

The night screams,
"Impermanence"
But the angels greedily continue
And the child drifts off
And God holds out his hand
And her mother goes to bed.

Forward, the hours go
And the angels have left
And God has lost his patience
One last time.

And the child wakes up to her mother over her bed
And the child weeps
For the angels and God
And the night that would not stay.
