Checkered Battlefield
Behold the bloody, brutal battle
roaring in a world where color seems mightier than the heart.
Living like knights on a checkered battlefield,
sparring with eyes wide shut.
Behold the bloody, brutal battle.
Clashing until the sun sinks into the ocean,
Until the black sky, the yellow stars, and the white moon rise,
forming a perfect dream – a stained glass.
Below, the colors kindle chaos.
Above, the colors harmonize into a magnificent night.
The shades the same, and yet so different.
Behold the bloody, brutal battle.
Fighting until the blood soaks through.
And in the moment that it pushes into the cracks of skin,
piercing the heart and waking realization,
heads rise, swords lower.
They see each other. They see themselves. They see the same.
Dressed from head to toe in the same crimson red, in the same salty tears,
they see only human.
This is who they are. Whether he is born
a sky, a star, or a moon.
It is only together that they can be one.
Behold the beautiful, magnificent night.
