Mother-Daughter Memories
Has God blessed me with a miracle?
Just gazing at those twinkling hazel eyes would make anyone’s heart melt.
Do you remember the very first word you ever uttered?
Da-da. Da-da. You’re still quite unsure,
Softly and effortlessly it rolls off your tongue.
Who’s ready for a tubby bath?
You respond with an immense giggle and a slight grin.
A favorite little ducky waits for your presence.
Are you ready to receive your first sacrament of Baptism?
White gown? Check! Bonnet? Check! Smile? Check!
Honey, how long will it be before she walks?
BE PATIENT! One wobbly step. Two wobbly steps. BAM!
She dropped to the floor quick. Gravity wasn’t her best friend,
But she never gave up.
Oh, how does time pass me by?
You’re a toddler now, all big and bad. You’re walking and talking, and
Doing your own thing.
Hey, what about a helping hand with some dirty laundry?
Mommy, you know the drill. Only if you take me for a short spin in the laundry basket first!
Wheeeeeeeee-Wheeeeeeeee!
Do you have a spare moment to unpack a few of these groceries for me dear?
Mommy, let me show you how it’s done.
Throw me the cottage cheese, I’ll scurry across the floor, open the refrigerator door, and make room for more.
Has anyone vacuumed the house lately?
Oh, pick me! Oh, pick me, please! I’m such an enormous help.
Forgetting to push the on button, I love to clean.
Missing some dirt here, there, and just about everywhere, I love to clean.
Is that the big yellow school bus that I hear roaring around the corner of our street?
Elementary school is here. Mommy, this is where I learn my ABC’s and 123’s.
How many new friends did you make today at school?
Every one of them is my friend.
What was the most exciting thing you learned from your math teacher today?
One plus one is always two. I never knew such a crazy thing.
Welcome home, my little girl. What did you like that most about your first week of school?
Recess is the best! It’s the number one class of the day.
Are you a smidge bit nervous for your first day of 6th grade at an entire new school?
Uh…I’m getting goose bumps and my arm hair just won’t lay flat to say the least.
What if I get lost? What if my locker gets jammed? What if I am late to class?
Would you like me to escort you around school on the first day?
No, no mom that would be so embarrassing in front of all my friends.
Did you manage to conquer the first day?
Yes, I survived. Actually, it was a piece of cake.
I can’t wait to see what new quests tomorrow will bring.
What is it like to experience a middle school dance?
My story goes something like this. Across the dance floor, in the midst of people, sits my crush.
My only desire is to dance with him, but there’s one minor issue.
I resemble a turtle forever tightly wedged inside my shell. I’m just too shy!
How does it feel to be recognized for outstanding grades throughout all of middle school?
I’m completely honored. Graduating 8th grade is a great achievement.
Mom, without your support, encouragement, and strength, I’d be left in the dust, struggling.
When are you going to bump up your sports career to the next level of competition?
Freshman year is when you lay it all on the line. Show the coaches your talent, drive, and heart.
Practice how you intend to play. Step up your game when your team needs it the most. Leave everything you’ve worked towards the entire season out on the court. It’s your time to shine.
How is your first car treating you?
Finally freedom is mine. I claim it as my own. Passing that one driving test never felt so good.
Did you bust and move at the winter formal dance this year?
Honestly mom, that dance rocked my socks off. Slow dancing, fast dancing,
We covered all the bases. Everyone managed to dance the night away.
What time should I be expecting you home from your date tonight? Do I really know this boy?
Mom, I’ll text you later. Don’t turn all psych-o like your mother always did. Trust me.
What comes next I would’ve never dreamed of in a million years! Why so soon?
College is near. I’m ready to go. I will miss you. I’m positive you will call me every other hour.
One last thing I believe I should mention…
I won’t ever forget those mother-daughter memories we made together.
