The only way to be a capable writer of fiction is to learn a great deal about what it means to be human. -Michael Mendelson

Slice, dice, cut.
Everything seems to be the same.
Nothing is special,
Not a person who can make a claim.
Slice, dice, cut.
Trying to find who might be real.
Who will fit into the cookie cutter version
to what everyone else says you should appeal.
Slice, dice, cut.
Every person without the Traits.
Never changing the method
of how you try to open the closed off gates.
Slice, dice, cut.
Looking for talent.
Not finding anything worthy.
Has all this time been ill spent?
Sli-
Wait. Stop.
Try something new.
Change the method.
What have you to lose?
Peel away. Carefully handle.
Lo and behold,
a star hidden from the world.
waiting for room to unfold.
Peel away. Carefully value.
Another one.
Not the same as the first,
but no doubt the first of a great sum.
Take a discarded one, there are many.
Peel away. Carefully treasure.
The same inner star.
Finally for everyone to take pleasure.
It has taken too long,
the time is far overdue.
To realize that everyone’s talent
is willingly revealed to few.
Be the one to peel back the layers,
to carefully know what to do
with the flaws and strengths of others,
knowing that this is not about you.
Understand that others
need to trust friends
in order to show the world
their best until the end.
Learn how to look at every person,
to gaze at every being, near and far.
And see that behind every “common” piece of fruit,
is a beautiful, individual star.
