The Beach
As we enter the beach we can feel the sand in between our toes,
And the shells crackling under our feet.
We can feel the ocean mist hit our faces,
As we search for the perfect spot.
The parents set up our beach umbrella and lay out our towels,
My cousins and I head straight for the crystal clear blue waters of Bethany Beach.
I finally build up the nerve to dip my toe in,
Just as I suspected it’s as cold as ice.
I run to the shore,
Only to wrap myself in a vibrant purple towel.
I watch the circle of life as a mother turtle leads her children to safety in the ocean.
As we step onto the Boardwalk,
We hear nothing but little children begging their parents for ice cream,
Or something to sooth them from the hot summer sun.
I can smell the salty pretzels and fresh squeezed lemonade as people walk past me.
I go into a trance as I bite into the sensational board walk fries.
I watch as desperate pigeons eat every speck of food they can find.
It’s time to go back to the beach house,
For a delightful meal prepared by my family.
We later return to the beach to roast marshmallows,
And watch sunset that looks as if a work of art.
