Only the caged bird knows why it sings
Its feeling of dreadful darkness hits deep.
She lays there like a stranded sailor would.
Her life is an uphill steep.

All along the owner believes its grateful
Blind of not truly knowing
That the bird wants out
Just to find what she is missing

Again the caged bird sings
Again it's furiously fighting to find a way home
Again it's missing that thing everyone needs
Again she fails to escape

Growing up family is ones savior
A person to fall back on
When you feel alone in the world
A life without family is cruel

This caged bird voice is one for help
One that is in need for family
Without it she may not survive
A broken heart can be her failure

Its owner may never understand
The caged bird may never find its way
Waiting in its cage for freedom
But, only the caged bird knows why it sings
