The Elephant That Ruled the World
But this particular elephant
Was different.
This particular elephant was eye-catching.
We continued watching
All of the elephants in their
Natural habitat, and
There was something about
This particular elephant that grabbed our attention.
This particular elephant was selfless.
This particular elephant was the center of the universe.
We found ourselves
Revolving around him,
Like planets around the sun,
As we continued our research.
This particular elephant was
Never eating, never sleeping.
Always offering his own time
And energy to assist the young.
This particular elephant took the role of a mother,
This particular elephant was never one to complain.
This particular elephant would fill its trunk
And bathe its children
As if they were rare collectibles.
We found ourselves
Coming back…
Again and again to
This particular elephant.
It’s almost as if the force of
A gigantic black hole was pulling us
Towards this behemoth elephant.
It’s almost as if the universe
Is trying to tell us something.
Tell us that the simple acts of kindness are what attract us to one another.
Tell us that there is no time for selfishness.
Tell us that we should all be caring.
Tell us that there is more to life than what we see.
Something that you can only imagine…
Something that kept drawing us back,
Again and again, to
This particular elephant.
