The Question of Existence
The question arises again and again,
The individual against the mass,
Who am I?
The common question.
What defines the individual?
Physical, mental, emotional,
Do these things exist?
If they don't, do I?
Maybe it's society
That forces us to be individuals,
To be ourselves,
To know that we are alone,
Separate.
Yet it is society that presses us
To be the same.
To join the norm,
To conform.
Society pushes and pulls,
But only
If we claim
"I am somebody!"
What if I'm nobody?
What a release!
Society has no hold on nobody
Nothing to push or pull,
What can it claim against nobody?
What can anyone claim?
Questioning my own identity,
My existence,
Freedom?
