Don't die a copy, stay an original -Unknown

I'm stranded in this corner with fear I won't survive. I've witnessed bloody murder, everyday at this time. I hear the children crying, their tears falling to the ground. Inside I feel like dying though those words will never make a sound. The gun shots heard shooting as they tear through the human soul, the terror heard rooting as my body goes completely cold. To awake to such a reality makes me pale, make me numb. At the brink of insanity though the horror has just begun. No sleep of peace for I tremble under the darkness. Like broken glass I get shattered by the heartless. This war so cruel, so full of hatred and madness, as my heart continues to beat to the rhythm of sadness. Once more I continue to dream of its final end though my heart stays broken and will never be fixed again.

I wrote this poem years ago in class. It's based on something I read in that class, but I know it was powerful.
