Mountain Man

Have you ever felt it The sweet sizzle of your muscle The sweat-drenched shirt against your beating chest The cool rush of water in your throat at the top of a mountain hike? Yes, I have And yet the reason we would do so why we grind our bones to dust The labor so intense is not that far away Yet I grasp for it by the tip of my fingers and it touches me, so slight to give away to a bit of sight As the cool air brushes my breath away And whispers in my ear "This hike isn't about the end; Please stay."

This poem was inspired by all the various different hikes that I've been on, with my troop, with my friends.
To me, it tells you to realize, that the most you get out of the hike is while you're trekking along the endless path, when you think to yourself, when your mind enters a state of self-awareness, free to think.
This is my first piece of poetry, and was encouraged by my fantastic, wonderful Public Speaking teacher.
