The Thing about Dreams
Sometimes in my dreams
I like to run away from home
To places I've never seen
And meet new people
Sometimes I make up people
Because then I already know them
Even though they don't exist
They can become my best friend
And this place my new home
If only for one night.
Because, you see,
I control my dreams
And that is what I like about them
Because if I don't like someone
They are not in my dream
If I like someone
They are there
And they like me, too
I can even invent people
Who will like me, too
I can make up stories
With these made-up people
In made-up places
Or with real people
In real places
Or I can relive things
That really happened
Or imagine ones that didn't
And no one will hear the stories
Unless I tell them.
I love to dream
And make up events
And live through them with people
Who do not exist
I find out so much
About myself
That I never really knew
Because these people tell me
Because they know me
Because I imagined them.
I do not always remember my dreams
Or the people
Or the places
I usually only remember
One or two things
Which I suppose is a good thing
Because if I remembered them all
I would always be disappointed
Because the thing about dreams is
You have to wake up.
