Red Rising
The day,
coming to a close—
Blackening sky
fire red, blooming
from where the sun still
peeks out over the horizon
High on the mountain,
the town below
seems so small.
Like nothing can
reach us,
pull us down
out of our
euphoria.
The beautiful silence
envelops us,
secluding us more
We've stopped now,
resting at the top
A small space
separates us.
I turn towards you
You turn towards me
and begin your descent
down to one knee.
The silence breaks,
your voice cracking,
“Marry me?”
