Marionette
stay close,
wrap your finger around my arteries
and pull until I cannot live
without you.
warm me up,
my hands are numb,
but maybe it’s because there’s
no blood left,
not even a drop.
the cat licks, the dog barks,
but I can not see it,
not when I’m freezing,
not when the lamp is burned out.
not when you’re so far away,
dragging my veins behind you,
paths of life and death and love and hate
and my blood, everywhere.
laughter, wicked, sweet
written on the walls and my dead eyes
read the words, but do not comprehend.
stay, break my sternum
drink my blood,
play my ribs like a harp.
my body is a toy,
wind me up and I’ll say just what you want.
but bend my limbs the wrong way,
and I’ll snap.
