What you mean to me
When left alone,
To the thoughts of my own
I often think of you.
The past comes forth to the present
quite often these days,
and I find myself
reminding myself
Of what you mean to me.
The eyes of a child looked up to you,
watching everything you do.
Memories of better times,
made me care for you with all that I could.
But masked by struggles,
far more than they should.
I’ve changed and I’m grown now,
but you remain the same somehow.
You’ve let your past define you,
In the way that I refuse to.
You’ve left me somewhat of a mess,
But I love you nonetheless.
And when left alone,
To the thoughts of my own,
I often think of you.
The past comes forth to the present
quite often these days,
and I find myself,
reminding myself,
Of what you mean to me.
