Nobody Knows

nobody knows me,
not him and not her,
but then there's you

i want you to know me,
not for who everyone thinks i am,
but for who i know i am

i usually let people in,
or give them a chance to hurt me,
but you are worth the risk

i am like you,
you are like me,
but it is not the same

we are dangerous together,
i refuse to be hurt again,
but i may hurt more without you

i resist your words and your gaze,
not allowing myself to fall,
but i cant hold on any longer

it is your choice,
you can betray me and leave,
but if i trust you, don't break it

i will learn to like,
i will learn to love,
but it might take a while

i could choose to like you,
and eventually love you,
but make sure i'm your only one

nobody knows me,
not him and not her,
but then there's you

The author's comments:
This poem is for people who have been hurt. Notice that every word is lowercase, I chose to write this poem this way on purpose, it shows that the speaker does not have high self-esteem, and that they don't trust themselves. I am one of those people who don't have much self-esteem and this is for people who need to realize that they need to let people in and trust themselves and others, but to choose carefully and not to let just anyone in. I also began the last line of each stanza with the word 'but', I did this to show the doubt that the speaker has for herself. Don't doubt yourself, this is a step towards a wonderful life, full of love and success.
