Shadows.
The absence of light in a particular area due to a person, animal, object, or anything that is physical matter. Shadows are the dark and dismal remnants of your body after bathing in light. They cling: to your feet, to your fingers, to your hair, nose, and chin. They disappear and reappear at the blink of an eye. Their existence lasts only as long as the angle of light that caused them. Shadows change with the sun: growing longer as the day wears on. Shadows depend on the combination of light and objects in order to live. One without the other simply won’t do. Too much light causes them to shrink; too little causes them to blend.
A shadow can be your friend; or a reminder you are alone (depending on how your day went). No matter what happens, your shadow will always appear next to you once you step outside. For me, they serve as a reminder that I am alive. I am here, on this earth. My mind may wander elsewhere; but I am here, flesh and blood. Shadows remind me that I am not translucent, and shouldn’t be treated as such. I am the puppeteer. I am in full control of my shadow’s movements. If I am in control of such an enigmatic being, who can stop me?
