Little Birds
Little Birds fly tree to tree
Some are hopping on the grassy sea
chirping all day long
their own melodic song
on the bench under the tree
one lone bird sits next to me
here in the middle of June
it sings a completely different tune
a fence lines the landscape
only birds may escape
leaves fall onto the grass
how long have i been here? did my lifetime pass?
the bird is perched in pain
i pray he not die in vain
you can hear it in the song he'll sing
he must have fell and broke his wing
he lies upon my leg
his eyes plead and beg
for mercy, for space
as he died, tears rolled down my freckled face
never again shall i be
alone under this tree
my bird will live on
in my heart and on and on
