Scrrrshhh, Scrrrsshhhhh
Ski glides over the hard-packed icy crystals
Each movement carrying her higher
Up the mountainous hill

Squeakkkkk, Squeakkkk
Poles bite into the snow
Dig down deep and
propel her forward

Whoooshh, Whoosshhhh
Lungs gasp greedily
at the thin, crisp air
Icy gusts burn down her throat

Thud, Thud, Thud, Thud
Heart leaps in her chest
Hammering as if to escape
the confines of the body
and fly free with the wind

Summit
Beautiful silence sings in the air

The author's comments:
This poem is written to convey through sound the feelings I get when I ski. For me, the most beautiful feeling is being completely and utterly surrounded by nature, where the only man-made sounds are the ones you are making yourself.
