Strong Enough
Trapped in what you thought was love
Not as pure as two white doves
Married to a stranger or thug
Abused every night never receiving a hug
Confused as to why he would turn into this
You never thought it would happen after that first kiss
All he wanted was something alive
So he claimed his prize
And it was you that became his bride
The Love at first sight
At the end became a fright
Love really is blind
It tricked you into falling in behind
Made some offspring
But the man will never sing
The lullaby meant for his children
Instead, he went for swing
With the many other girls he's met
Coming home late at night and laying on that bed
Smelling of perfume he said he went to work instead
In your head, you say you're better off dead
That you'd rather die than living your life upon his chest
Inside his arms where he doesn't hug but strangle your neck
Inside his home where no one else will untangle or help you solve this mess
You can't go back to your immediate family
Because you sacrificed your life for their faces, reputation, and now you're seeing reality
You run away terrified of the things that happened inside
No one knows the truth that's all behind
The closed door of the family you thought would be nice
Reaching your family's home they say:
"Go back and stay"
Scared and helpless you give it a try and say,"Okay."
Going back you get hit and begin to cry that same day
You know you've done nothing wrong to deserve this
So you pack your things, take your children, and leave it
Smart move until he comes searching for you
But good job you didn't give in and say,"I love you too."
You survived the worse time of your life
You surpassed living with the devil on your bedside
You may have lost many battles, but you've won the war
You are now successful with a family of your own, and no one's calling you a w****
What people cannot see they say
They spread rumors, lies, and they think it's okay
But for you, you know the truth
Tell your story of how love haunted you
Of course not all men are like this, some women are too
But for now it's all about you, you, and you.
Now spread your horror tale so that the world can see
How an innocent little girl came out to be
How the creation of lies became her costume
When deep inside she was scared to show and tell the truth
Of the abuse, hatred, and betrayal
That spread on her like the flu
Don't be afraid to tell your story
Because if you were strong enough to spread your wings and fly from that evil
Then you're strong enough to help other people
