The Drop

The frosty blue sky glows as a reminder
that there’s only one day left until the frigid winter
I peek at my neck
it’s starting to brake

there’s no time for a depressing funeral
no time to cry alone
you have to get over it
you have to get over the circle of the seasons

I look down again
I see my whole family down on the brassy ground
one after another snap off the tree
then gracefully float downwards to the ground
when I know I’m the next to go
I begin to feel extremely lonely

humans say we are beautiful
the colors of apricot, light brown, and pumpkin orange fill the empty spaces of darkness
people don’t know the feelings of the fall
the heart aching emotions
that take over our will to believe
that we can hang on
and not

drop

I only have a couple more hours to hold on
I peer around to check on anyone else
I’m the only one left
just as I had seen in a nightmare
dropping all by myself

I look in the distance and spot a gust of wind
this could be it
maybe I will be on that brassy ground soon
so I hang on with all my might
