None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.<br /> -Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

You There!

Little boy!
Come over here;

And listen with joy!
Pay attention,

for I have no speech;
And please listen

To my simply silent preach.

Oh, and watch my hair
It's all i have left;
Pull up a chair
And watch the rising of my chest.

I'm going to tell you a story
Of how this happened to me;
But first, get me that water,
For it is out of reach.
And pour it on this mess
That used to be my face;
As I explain my final test
That lead to my ultimate fate.

Oh, and roll me over,
Could you, boy?
For under these covers,
I'm but a living chew toy.

See these stubs-

My arms and legs?-
I gave them up

For old Uncle Sam's sake.

I used to be a lively person,
Preparing to be soon married.
Yet now my body is a messy disaster,
And I am unable to move the carriage.

Why did I do it?
Well that's quite simple, you see.
Men in suits got in a dispute
And, to settle the feud, they picked me.

Me, of all people!

I'm sure you'll understand;
Was sent off to fight in battle,
So they don't get blood on their clean hands!

We do it for honor,
Ah, and glory too!
Words that help us live no livelier
Than that of an incompetent fool!

And in return
for those meaningless words
Our souls are burnt,
And out bodies are bruised,
So those powerful men,
Can end their little feud.

Even if you live
And are mobile-unlike me-
Then it is your sanity you must give,
So the aristocrats can claim victory!
