Trust is a hard thing to ask for
It should be earned, not given.
I gave my trust away once before
And watched it ripped to pieces.
I believed everything I was told
Though I knew that it wasn’t true.
I trusted until it hurt to trust
That is why I’m scared with you.
I’ve been damaged by these words
I’ve been scarred and maimed before.
I want nothing but to trust every time
But how do I trust when I know the truth?
I know the consequences of falling
I know the damage it can do
I know that every time you say it
It doesn’t make it true.
